Coach Requirements

All Coaches will attend schedule Coaches meetings with the OGYF&C Board Committee or President.

Practice & game day regulations:

Head Coach must be present at every practice and game. If the Head Coach is unable to attend a practice or game, you must advise the Football Vice President a week in advance. The only exception will be an unexpected emergency.

Head Coaches are responsible for the attendance of the Assistant Coaches and their behavior on the field during practice and games.

In the event that a team fails to have at least 2 coaches present at every practice and 3 coaches present at every game, coaches on that team will be put on probation and reviewed by OGYF&C Committee. The Committee will have the option to suspend the coach or coaches for the remainder of the year or continue probation until an appointed time.

It is unfair to our kids and parents to attend practice and games without a committed team of coaches always in attendance.

Code of Conduct:

·        The coach will not criticize players in front of spectators

·        The coach will accept the final decisions of officials

·        The coach will not criticize the officials, the opposing team, the coaches, fans or parents, through language or gesture.

·        The coach will emphasize that good athletes are good students, and both are physically and mentally alert.

·        The coach will strive to make every football/cheer activity serve as a training ground for life, and as a basis for good mental and physical health.

·        The coach will emphasize that winning a game is the result of teamwork.

·        The coach shall not use abusive or profane language before anyone connected with the game.

·        The coach will refrain from “running-up” the score against an opponent. This includes keeping in the first defense at all times.

·        The coach shall not be under the influence of alcohol or dangerous drugs

·     The coach will set an example in personal conduct at all times. 

·        The coach will treat each player, opposing coach, parent and administrator with respect and dignity.

·        The coach will learn the strengths and weakness of his/her players so they s/he might place them into situations where they have a maximum opportunity to achieve success.

·        The coach will protect the health and safety of his/her players

There is a Mandatory Criminal History background check. Background check is required for all Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches. Background checks will remain confidential by law and results are only seen by the OGYF&C President. 

Coach’s Application Notice and Process

Following approval of Application and background clearance of candidates a list of approved coaches will be provided to the OGYF&C Committee.

1)     The OGYF&C President and Athletic Director will select the Head Coach

2)     Head Coaches must be approved by the OGMP Board

3)     OGYF&C President, Athletic Director and Head Coaches will choose Assistant Coaches from list of applicants

Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches will be selected on the following:

1.      Clear back ground check

2.      Coaching experience

3.      Availability for practices & games

Per league rules for Football:

football teams will have 1 Head Coach and 4 Assistant Coaches

Cheer Squads will have 1 Head Coach & 1 or 2 Assistant Coaches; they can also have additional assistants for Competition
